George Marshall Sparks
George Marshall Sparks, 84, of Vanceburg, passed away Friday, September 14th, 2012 at the Donalson Nursing Home in Fayetteville, TN.
He was born on March 26, 1928 at Oak Ridge in Lewis County, a son of the late Walter and Cecil Botkins Sparks.
George was a dairy and tobacco farmer until his illness in 1992. He was a committed husband and a wonderful father and he will be missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
George is survived by his wife of 64 years, Magdelene Mustard Sparks, three daughters, Vickie Hartley, Rhonda Long, Stephanie (Dexter) Elliott all of New Market, Alabama; 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mary Rosenkoetter of Elyria, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sons, Mark Anthony Sparks and the baby, George Marshall Sparks, Jr; 2 brothers, Charlie and Jim; 6 sisters, Gertrude, Francis, Mae, Eloise, Ruby, and Opal.
Services will be held at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 18th, 2012 from 6 – 9 pm. The funeral will be the following day on Wednesday at 1 pm with graveside services afterward at the Black Oak Cemetary.

Katherine Lockaton
Katherine Anna Lockaton Age 91 went to be with her Lord and Saviour Tuesday September 4, 2012 with her
family by her side at 12:42 am at the Southern Ohio Hospice Center in Portsmouth, Ohio after an extended illness.
Katherine was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania June 2, 1921 to the late Peter and Katherine Schaum Hoffman. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, and was very active with St. Stephens Catholic Church in Pittsburgh, PA. In her earlier years she was a Den Mother for the Boys Scouts and was a cook for Stouffers' restaurant as well as being a cook for the Meals on Wheels program.
Preceded her in death beside her parents was her husband John Albert Lockaton in 1971 a son- Richard Lockaton, 1-brother- Bernard Hoffman and a sister- Beatrice Kolas.
Surviving is a daughter- Debbie (Dwight) Ruark of Vanceburg, Ky.
1-Son- Kenneth Lockaton- Pittsburgh, PA.
Six grandchildren- Jamie Bryan, Danielle Haverty, Missy Schidlmeier, Keith Lockaton, Holly Gilbert, and Shonda Waxman. 9-great-grandchildren.
1-Neice- Shirley Dougherty and 2-nephews John and Bernard Kolas. 3-great-nieces also survive.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 11:00 AM September 7, 2012 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Dave Glockner officiating.
Friends may call from 5-9pm Thursday at the Gaydos Funeral Home. A Rosary prayer will be held at 7:30pm Thursday at the Gaydos Funeral Home.
Burial will follow Saturday at St. Michael's Cemetery Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Reverend Paul Carter Pepoon
Reverend Paul Carter Pepoon Age 88 of Vanceburg, Kentucky passed away Sunday September 2, 2012 at Meadowview Regional Medical Center Maysville, Kentucky after an extended illness.
Reverend Pepoon was born June 10, 1924 in Vineland, New Jersey a son of the late Reverend Charles and Marjorie Mills Pepoon.
He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He completed his under graduate studies at Wheaton College and received his Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary. He was married for 50 years to the late Deloris Irene Snyder Pepoon of Vanceburg, Ky.
He served for more than fifty years with the United Methodist Church leading congregations in North Dakota, West Virginia, and Kentucky. Reverend Pepoon was always ready to play the piano, for he and his wife would play song specials for instrumental or for the congregation to sing.
He was a missionaries friend, supporting many with his prayers and financial support. His Primary goal was to proclaim the Good News of Salvation through Jesus Christ.
Reverend Pepoon was a member of the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Surviving are 2-daughters- Laura Pepoon of Waynesville, North Carolina and Hannah (Jayme) King of St. Charles, Illinois.
3-Sons- Seth (Lora) Pepoon- Hermitage, Tennessee, Dale (Jennie) Pepoon- Midlothian, Virginia, and Jeff (Pam) Warner of Hampstead, North Carolina.
Grandchildren Jeffrey Warner, Kenny Warner, Bella Warner, Larry Warner, and Tara Warner, Katelyn Cagle, Andrea Boyter, Joshua Pepoon, Daniel King, Rachael, King, and Nathaniel King. 2-great- grandchildren along with several nieces and nephewsalso survive.
1-Sister- Doris Bishoff of Mentville, New Jersey and one-sister-in-law- Lydia Pepoon of Bedford, Texas.
Preceded in death beside his parents and wife was one sister and her husband-Eunice & Clint Hilliard 1-brother-Mark Pepoon and 1-brother-in-law-Paul Bishoff.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8pm at the Gaydos Funeral Home and 1-hour prior to the service Thursday at the Vanceburg United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be Thursday September 6, at 2:00PM at the Vanceburg United Methodist Church with Reverend Ray Snider and Reverend Janis Barton officiating. Burial will follow at Lewis County Memory Gardens Black Oak, Ky. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the V.F.W. Post 5438 Monte Lewis Stamm.

Richard D. Moellman
Richard D. Moellman, Age 60, of Crescent Springs, Kentucky passed away Saturday morning August 11, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Hospital Edgewood, Kentucky after an extended illness.
Mr. Moellman was born in Covington, Ky. October 8, 1951 to the late Robert Bernard and Mary Elizabeth Donahue Moellman. Richard was employed with Securitas Company as a security guard in Northern Kentucky and more recently with Toyota Headquarters. He was involved volunteering his time with the Special Olympics committee. He also attended the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Crestview Hills, Ky.
Surviving is a daughter- Julie (Adam) Luebbers of Ft. Thomas, Ky.
One Son- Joshua Moellman of Ft. Thomas, Ky.
1-Sister- Peg Thomas of Vanceburg, Ky.
2-Brothers- John (Kathy) Moellman of Fort Mills, South Carolina and Bob (Peggy) Moellman of Independence, Ky.
2-Grandchildren Alex and Aiden.
His Loving companion- Joan Rylee of Crescent Springs, Ky.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 1:00PM at the Richard Thomas Home 2899 Salt Lick Road Vanceburg, Kentucky 41179. Burial will follow in the Thomas/Kinney Family Cemetery Salt Lick, Ky.
Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00am until time of services Thursday at the Richard Thomas Home on Salt Lick, Ky.

Margaret S. Riley
Margaret S. Riley Age 96 passed away peacefully at home Wednesday August 29, 2012. Ms. Riley was born in Maysville, Kentucky April 29, 1916 to the late George and Ethel Purden Shumate. She was a farmer and a housewife. She was a member of Eastern Star Alum City Chapter 222. She was a member of the Fly Branch Church Of Christ.
Preceded in death beside her parents was her husband Thomas B. Riley, 3-sisters and 4-brothers and a granddaughter Darcey.
Surviving are 2-daughters- Elizabeth Marie Trapp of Phoenix, Arizona, Janet Itannian of Stark, Florida.
1-Son- Brooks (Tammy) Riley Jr. of Vanceburg, Ky.
4-Grandchildren also survive.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday September 5, 2012 at 11:00am at Black Oak Cemetery Black Oak, Ky.
There will be no visitation.

Bertram Nolen
Mr. Bertram Nolen, Age 78, of Marion, Ohio formerly of Lewis County, Kentucky passed away Tuesday August 7, 2012 at the Marion Manor in Marion, Ohio.
Mr. Nolen was born in Lewis County, Kentucky October 27, 1933 to the late Wiley and Ola Marie Bloomfield Nolen.
Mr. Nolen worked for the Marion County Highway Department until he retired. He was of the Christian Faith.
His passion was collecting and restoring old clocks and watches.
Preceded in death beside his parents was his first wife Sue Ellen Wilhelm Nolen in 1991, 7 siblings that died in infancy, 1-brother- Fred Nolen and a niece Carolyn Caseman Evans.
Surviving is his wife Pauline L. Layne Nolen of Marion, Ohio.
1-Sister- Betty (Clarence) Caseman of Vanceburg, Ky.
2-Nieces- Judy (Larry) Carrington and Cathy (Bill) Everman both of Vanceburg, Ky.
Also several great nieces and nephews who will sadly mourn his passing.
Gravesisde services will be held Saturday August 11, 2012 at 11:00am at the Nolen Cemetery Laurel, Ky. with Brother Hansel Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Nolen Cemetery Laurel, Ky.
Pallbearers will be Jim Evans, Ryan Evans, Andy Caseman, Bill Everman, Johnathan Everman, and Larry Carrington.
