Ms. Merle Stone, Age 90, of Vanceburg, Kentucky passed away Wednesday August 6, 2014 at her home. Merle was born October 17, 1923 to the late Chester and Molly Akers Gilliam. She was a self-employed Business woman in Vanceburg where she owned and operated Merles Beauty Shop for nearly 30 years. After retiring from her business she became an instructional Aid for the Lewis County School Systems. She also was a member of the Vanceburg United Methodist Church.

Preceded her in death was her husband Tinsley Stone in September 15, 1943 in France. 7-sisters- Nina Davis, Norbeth Bactel, Audrey Turner, Olive Evans, Mary Roe, Opal Fannin, and Edna Rayburn. Three brothers- Charles Gilliam, Hubert Wayne Gilliam, and Donald Gilliam.

Surviving is a sister – Willadean (John Henry) Hilger of Vanceburg, Ky.

Several nieces and nephews also survive who will mourn her passing.

 

Friends may call from 10:00 AM Saturday August 9, 2014 @ the Gaydos Funeral Home until time of services.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Gaydos Funeral Home with Pastor Janis Barton officiating. Burial will follow in the Stone Cemetery Camp Dix, Ky.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lewis County Educational Foundation.
