Norma R. Burriss, Age 70, of Vanceburg, Ky. Passed away Saturday January 31, 2015 @10:16 am at her home after an extended illness.

Norma was born in Lewis County, Ky. May 20, 1944 to the late Albert and Okla Bloomfield Durham. Norma in her earlier years worked for Daniels' Bakery here in Vanceburg and The Sundry Store. She also worked for U.S. Shoe and Bow factory for many years. She was a caregiver for the elderly and also babysat many children. She was a member of the Evans Chapel Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother.


Surviving are two daughters- Rebecca Weber of Vanceburg, Ky., and Sherri (Ronald) Gardiner of Cincinnati, Ohio.

3-sons- Harry (Sheila) Burriss, David (Sherri) Burriss, and Martin (Rosemary) Burriss all of Vanceburg, Ky.

One sister- Phyllis (Wayne) Cooley of Burtonville, Ky.

12-grandchildren and 23-great-grandchildren also survive. Many cousins and other family members who will mourn her passing.

Preceded her in death beside her parents was her husband Hershel Burriss in 2004, 2-sisters- Leona Blythe and Weaver Clark. 3-brothers- Clinton Durham, Donald Ray Durham, and Leander Durham.

1-great-grandson- Quinton Brown in 2014.


Friends may call from 5-9 pm Tuesday February 3rd, 2015 and from 8:00 am until time of services Wednesday at the Gaydos Funeral Home 159 2nd street Vanceburg, Ky. 41179.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:00 pm at the Gaydos Funeral Home with Brother John Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Richardson Cemetery Scotts Branch, Ky.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Perry, Ronnie Gardner, Willie Willis, Porky Kegley, Bubby Gardner, Wayne Cooley, Terry Cooley, and Kevin Cooley.

Aunt Norma will be missed greatly, but knowing she is no longer suffering is comfort. Our thoughts and prayers are with her sister, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Norma will be missed by everyone who knew her. She was one of a kind. I will really miss talking with her. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this sad time.

Sorry for you loss! Norma will always have a special place in our heart. I remember when Phyllis and Norma came to see me on Phyllis'birthday What a surprise! To this day it was a secret between us! We love you Norma!

So sorry to hear of Norma's passing. Will always remember her having Corn Pops cereal for me when she babysitted me years ago! She was a wonderful person! Prayers for you all.
