Aaron Joseph ‘Spud’ Applegate, 48, of Vanceburg, Kentucky, passed away early Thursday morning, August 15, 2024, with his beloved wife by his side at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio, following a prolonged illness.
Aaron was born in Portsmouth, Ohio May 30, 1976 to the late George Russell and Barbara Flinders Applegate. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from California State University East Bay. Aaron was known for his love of family, enthusiasm for various games, and passion for golf. An avid trivia player at Port City Pub, he embraced his “nerd” status with pride. Aaron was also a dedicated Master Mason and a member of Stone City Lodge #963 in Garrison, Kentucky.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda Gaydos, whom he married on December 31, 2017, in Vanceburg. He leaves behind his two daughters, Alexandria Applegate and Julia Clark, and his son, Aaron Gabriel Applegate, all of Vanceburg, Kentucky. Aaron is also survived by his sister, Amy (Jamie Spencer) Clark of Petersville, Kentucky; his nephew, Cameron (Lacey) Royal of Arkansas; and his great-niece, Salem Blair Royal, along with numerous family and friends who will deeply miss him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 2nd Street, Vanceburg, Kentucky 41179. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m., officiated by Brother John Byard. Masonic rites will be performed after the service by Stone City Lodge #963 Free & Accepted Masons of Garrison, Kentucky.
