Mr. Charles Robert Vance, Age 89, of Vanceburg, Kentucky passed away Sunday morning July 14, 2013 at 4:30am with his family by his side at the Hospice of Hope Care center @ Kenton Pointe in Maysville, Ky. After an extended illness.
Mr. Vance was born in Concord, Ky. June 12, 1924 to the late Robert Jackson and Ethel Phylis Spriggs Vance. Mr. Vance worked for the C&O and CSX Railroad for 33 years.
He was a veteran of the United States Army which he so proudly served during World War II in European Theatre Artillary Division with campaigns at Normandy, Ardennes, and the Rhineland.
Member of the East Fork Church.
Surviving is his Wife of 65 years Betty Truesdell Vance of Vanceburg, Ky.
2 Daughters- Belinda (David) Freeman of Cecil, Wisconsin, Pamela (Rick) Polley of Tollesboro, Ky.
3-Sons- Randall (Kennetha) Vance of Mt. Sterling, Ky., Robert (Marty) Vance and his wife Vickie of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Chris Vance of Vanceburg, Ky.
13-Grandchildren, Shannon Freeman, Sonya (Shannon) Manley, Leighanne (Mike) Wilson, Jennifer (Eric) Slagle, Kevin Polley, Kelly (Jay) Weitekamp, Kristen (Jason) Story, Joshua (Jessica) Vance, Edwina (Adrian) Ginn, Brian (Michelle) Vance, Zachary (Bethany) Vance, Madison (Cora) Vance and Olivia Vance. 16-great-grandchildren. 5-step-great-grandchildren.
1-Sister- Dolores Childrey of Vanceburg, Ky.
2-Sisters-in-law- Ellen (Jack) Burroughs of Worthington, Ky., Sharon (Jack) Cooper of Elkhart, Indiana. Several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great nephews also survive who will mourn his passing.
2-Brothers- in-law Preston Lacy - Bellebrook, Ohio, and Ernie & Rose H. Truesdell Jr.
Preceeded in death beside his parents was a sister-in-law- Lois Lacy.
Special cousin and friend Lula Belle Corns Church brothers and sisters- Special helper, Jack McCall
Military rites will be accorded by the Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438 at East Fork Cemetery
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00am July 17, 2013 at the East Fork Christian Church with Pastor Bruce Heller officiating. Burial will follow in the East Fork Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10:00am until time of services Wednesday at the East Fork Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established to be given to the Hospice of Hope Maysville, Ky. or to the Gideons International.
Pallbearers will be Eric Slagle, Christopher Slagle, David Childrey, Adrian Ginn, Madison Vance, Jason Story, Kevin Polley, and Bill Childrey Jr.
