Ms. Dorothy Wood Britt, Age 95, of Maysville, Kentucky formerly of Vanceburg, Kentucky passed into the loving arms of our heavenly Father Thursday May 9, 2019 at the Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility Maysville, Kentucky after an extended illness.

Dorothy was born in Vanceburg, Kentucky August 6^th, 1923 to the late Otis and Grace Cooper Mathewson.  Dorothy was a graduate of Lewis County High School Class of 1941.  She was Lewis County’s first cheerleader.  She attended Morehead State University.  Dorothy worked for the Pentagon in Washington D.C., it was at this time she met her husband Roy Britt in Arlington, Virginia.  She was blessed with a keen wit and a great spirit, she always had a smile for everyone she met, she kept those blessings until her passing.  Dorothy was a life-long member of the Vanceburg Christian Church.

Surviving are two sons- Woody (Jeanie) Britt, and James Thomas Britt both of Vanceburg, Ky.

Four grandchildren- Elizabeth (Woody) Underwood of Garrison, Ky., J. T. Britt of Lexington, Ky., Chris (Johanna) Cooper and Travis (Lonetta) Cooper all of Vanceburg, Ky.

Six- great-grandchildren- Carson and Emma Underwood, Anna and Jacob Cooper, Jakob and Noah Cooper who will also mourn her passing.

One sister- Lois Walden of Maysville, Ky.

Preceded Dorothy in death was her husband Roy W. Britt in 1988, and a daughter Elaine Polson in 2014.  4-sisters and 1-brother.

Funeral Services will be Monday May 13, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Gaydos Funeral Home 159 2^nd street Vanceburg, Ky. 41179 with Brother Mike Stephenson officiating.  Burial will follow In Lewis County Memory Gardens Black Oak, Ky.

Visitation will be Monday May 13, 2019 from 11:00 am until time of services at the funeral home.

Pallbearers for Dorothy Britt will be Woody Underwood, J.T. Britt, Chris Cooper, and Travis Cooper.
