Elmer J. Wintringham

ElmerJ. Wintringham Age 90 of Portsmouth, Ohio passed away Monday May 14, 2012 at his home after an extended illness. Mr. Wintringham was born in Marion, Ohio September 8, 1921 to the late Elmer E. & Nellie Elizabeth Farnsworth Wintringham.

Elmer was an accomplished poet and was a graduate of Harding High School in Marion, Ohio continued his education at Carnegie Tech, Pittsburg, Pa. and Marion Ohio Tech. College Branch of Ohio State University. He attended the American Institute of Banking and was a Graduate of the of the Oklahoma State Chemical School. Mr. Wintringham was a Court Baliff for the City Of Marion, Ohio, a Bank Teller in Marion County, Ohio, later he was in purchasing procurment for Tecumseh Products in Marion, Ohio from which he retired. He was a member of the Church Of Christ Grant and Summitt Portsmouth, Ohio. Member of the U.A.W. Local 750.

Mr. Wintringham was a veteran having the rank of Sgt. in the Chemical Warfare Air Corps in which he proudly served his country in World War II. He served in 9 countries Norway, Sweden, Ireland, England, France, Belgium, Scotland, and Germany. He received the European Theatre Ribbon, with two Battle Stars for the Invasion of France and The Battle of the Bulge.

Surviving his his wife- Polly Marie Stone Wintringham- Portsmouth, Ohio

3-sons- Dan Wintringham- Louisville, Ky., Don (Kim) Wintringham- Powell, Ohio, and Bob Wintringham of Centerburg, Ohio.

8-grandchildren and 8-great-grandchildren also survive.

Preceded in death beside his parents were four sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 am May 17, 2012 at the Gaydos Funeral Home with Brother Ken Warfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Stone Cemetery Camp Dix, Ky.

Friends may call from 5-8 pm Wednesday and from 8:00am until time of services Thursday at the Gaydos Funeral Home.

Military gravesdie rites will be accorded by V.F.W. Post 5438 Monte Lewis Stamm.
