John Kennedy McCane, Age 61, of Vanceburg, Kentucky passed away Friday December 20, 2024 at Southern Ohio Hospice center in Portsmouth, Ohio.

John was born in Lewis County, Kentucky November 25, 1963 to the late Naman and Margaret Louise Penrod McCane.  John had a nickname that his friends called him ‘Blue’ because he loved to go coon hunting and he loved Blue tick coon hunting dogs.  John was an auto mechanic for Dobo’s garage for 20 years and also worked for Kenny McCane at A&B auto sales.  He also worked for Coot Switzer body shop.  John was an avid outdoorsman loved to go hunting for rabbits and coons.  He loved his animals and was a collector of guns and knives.  John was always up to go to a yard sale and shop.  He loved little children and lived a very humble private life.       

Surviving John are 7 sisters- Rosemary (Tim) Byrum, and Faye (John) Jackson, Columbus, Ohio

Brenda (Joe) Mefford- Vanceburg, Kentucky, Jeanie (Jerry) Cullum of West Portsmouth, Ohio; Joyce (Danny) Bentley of Vanceburg, Kentucky.  Janet Kay (Winfred) Fraley-Garrison, Kentucky.  Vonda Clark Vanceburg, Ky.

4-Brothers- Cecil (Thelma) McCane, Dallas (Marlene) McCane, Duane (Melissa) McCane – Vanceburg, Kentucky, Terry Johnson Garrison, Ky.  Several nieces, nephews and friends who also survive will mourn his passing.

Preceded in death were 2-brothers- Larry McCane and Eric Thomas McCane.  4-step-brothers- Ronie, Donnie, Randy, and John Adkins. Two step-sisters- Kathy Adkins and Rita Fraley.

Visitation will be Monday December 23, 2024 from 1100 am to 1:00 pm at the Gaydos funeral Home 159 2nd street Vanceburg, Kentucky 41179.

Funeral service will be Monday December 23, 2024 at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Bobby McCane officiating.  Burial will follow in Muses Chapel cemetery on Quicks Run, Kentucky.

Pallbearers for John Kennedy McCane will be Justin Mefford, Waylon McCane, Tim Byrum, T. J. Scott, Andrew Swingler, and Jerry Cullum.
