Mrs. Mary Marcella Hamm, Age 85, of Vanceburg, Kentucky passed away with her family by her side Sunday March 28, 2021 after an extended illness. Marcella as she was known by family and friends was born in Grayson, Kentucky December 5, 1935 to the late Jack Robinson Kibbey and Flora Ellen Perkins Johnson.
Marcella was a graduate of Prichard High School Class of 1952. She was Salutatorian of her class. She went on to Georgetown College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1957. She also was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority.
She began her career as a Social Worker in Louisville, Ky and then relocated back to Eastern Ky where she taught High School French among other subjects.
She married her husband George R. Hamm on August 13, 1960. She continued teaching at Lewis County High School until starting a family in 1962. She resumed her career as a Social Worker in 1974 until retiring in 1991.
She was a member of the Alum City Chapter 222 Order of Eastern Star and Past Mother Advisor for the Rainbow Girls, she also served as Mother’s Club President for the Demolay. Marcella was a member of the Vanceburg Christian Church- serving in the music department and teaching Sunday School for many years. Her devotion to her faith was foremost in her life.
Left to cherish Marcella’s memories are two daughters- Robin (Richard) LaValley-Portsmouth, Ohio, and Renee Wampler of Vanceburg, Ky.
One son- G.R. Hamm of Portsmouth, Ohio
Five grandsons- Richard ‘Trey’ (Lindsey) LaValley III; Christopher Wampler, Taylor LaValley, Bret Wampler, Derek Wampler, and Contessa (Britton) Adams.
Sister- Jeannie Johnson of Northern, Ky. Great-grandchildren Skylar Adams, Elysia Adams, Ethan Adams, Laney LaValley, and Mila LaValley who also will mourn her passing.
Preceded in death beside her parents was her husband George Ray Hamm March 21, 1999, daughter- Margo Hamm May 5, 2015, son-in-law- Christopher Dale Wampler August 6, 2014. Sisters- Mary Sue Stovall, Linda Faye Fannin, and Judy Johnson. One brother- Joe Johnson.
Visitation will be held Saturday April 3rd, 2021 at the Vanceburg Christian Church 11:00 am until 1:00 pm.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 1:00 pm at the Church with Brother Daniel McClurg officiating. Entombment will follow at Lewis County Memory Gardens Black Oak, Ky.
Pallbearers for Mary Marcella Hamm will be Chris & Bret Wampler, Trey & Taylor LaValley, Britton Adams and Seth Fannin.
