Rick Switzer, Age 65, of Vanceburg, Kentucky passed away Thursday December 14, 2023 at the home of his daughter in Suffolk, Virginia.  He was surrounded by his family as he made his journey to his heavenly home.  Rick was born on May 20, 1958 to the late Clarence ‘Coot’ and Mima Royal Switzer.  He was the 6th of 11 kids.  Preceded in death beside his parents were two brothers- James ‘Bubbles’ Switzer, and Tom Switzer.  Sisters- Kathy Wilson, Jane Yates, and Carol ‘Georgie’ Switzer.

Rick, lived simply and never longed for the finer things in life.  His giving heart reached far and wide and he always made sure his kids had boxes of Grippos to snack on.  Rick was known to be a “collector of junk” but truly enjoyed the friendships that he made and they lasted a lifetime.  Often, he could be found at the Shortstop sippin on a cup of “free” coffee.  He enjoyed anything UK and spending time talking about Nascar or the Cincinnati Bengals.

Those left to hold onto the precious memories are his son, Scotty Switzer and his wife, Angie of Siler City, NC; Daughter- Jennifer Genito and husband, Dominic of Suffolk, VA; and Ricky Switzer and friend Ania of West Jefferson, NC.

He was always so proud of his grandkids and loved to hear about all they were doing.

They are Scotty Switzer and wife Jessie, Jacob Switzer and wife Holly, Leah Switzer, Alissa Wilson, William Wilson, Emma Genito, Chance Burke, Emma Burke and Ava Switzer.

Fours sisters- Thelma King (Wayne), Sue Kennedy, Robin Polley (Ray), and Donna “Donner” Grayson (Mike). brother- Chuck Switzer.  Many nieces and nephews also survive who will mourn his passing.

Private funeral services will be held at a later date.
