He was born in Vanceburg, KY on September 2nd, 1931, son of the late Clyde Earl Hickle and Violet Swords Hickle. He is preceded in death by, sister Peggy Grayson and brother Mitchell Hickle. He is survived by his sister Shirley Bohmer of Estero, FL.  He is survived by his spouse, Helen Dummitt Hickle, and his son, Charles Hickle (Patty), and daughters, Eugene O’Cull (John) and Jamie Hickle.  According to “Gene” his greatest accomplishment in life was his family and he was proud of his seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren combined with his beautiful family.

Gene attended Lewis County High School and became a successful construction worker/superintendent specializing in highways, structures and drainage expertise. He also was the owner of Hickle’s Carry-Out in Vanceburg and played a big part in community sponsorships for sports teams and county events. His strong work ethic was the key to his success to provide for his family and other families of which he could assist with maintaining employment.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing in Canada and Florida with friends and family. He and wife Helen also spent their winters enjoying the sunshine and friends in southwest Florida.
