Sophia C. (Bevens) Dugan

Sophia C. Bevens Dugan, Age 88, of Garrison, Kentucky passed away peacefully Sunday December 24, 2023 at the Vanceburg Rehabilitation & Health Care Center after a brief illness.

Sophia was born in Tannery, Kentucky February 8, 1935 to the late Amos Raymond and Gladys Cooper Bevens.  Sophia worked for the Aim Packaging Corporation in Port Clinton, Ohio.  She also worked for the Oak Harbor Nursing Home in Port Clinton, Ohio.  Sophia was a homemaker.  She was a member of the Pentecostal Church in Port Clinton, Ohio.

Preceded Sophia in death beside her parents was her husband of 61 years John B. Dugan Sr. in 2010 two sons- John B. Dugan Jr. in 2021, and James Dugan in 2013. 

Three sisters- Irene Fairchild, Omah Bevens, and Garnet Bevens.  Two brothers- Earl Raymond Bevens and Amos John Bevens.  Son-in-law Kenneth Ellithorpe in 2008.

Left to cherish Sophia’s memories are Three daughters- Bonnie Ellithorpe of Vanceburg, Ky., Brenda (Leslie) Rister of Oak Harbor, Ohio, and Marylin Parker of Garrison, Ky.

One son- Paul Ray Dugan of Port Clinton, Ohio.  25-grandchildren and 16-great-grandchildren and 3-great-great-grandchildren who also will mourn her passing.

One sister- Rosemary Applegate of Vanceburg, Ky.,

One brother- Lawrence Wayne Bevens of Vanceburg, Ky.

Along with many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Friday December 29, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gaydos Funeral Home at 159 second street Vanceburg, Kentucky 41179. With Sister Wilma Erwin officiating. Burial will follow at the Cooper-Willis Cemetery in Garrison, Kentucky.

Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the time-of-service Friday December 29, 2023.
