Wilma Horsley, age 99, of Vanceburg, Kentucky, passed away at her daughter-in-law and caretaker’s home surrounded by her family on Tuesday December 13, 2022.
Wilma was born in Petersville, Kentucky, on August 20, 1923, to the late Frank and Mabel Hamilton Dunaway. Wilma attended the Vanceburg Christian Baptist Church. Wilma was a long time Vanceburg business woman with her husband, Guy. They owned and operated Guy’s Market from 1953 to 1970. She also had other businesses in the area: Wilma’s Ready to Wear Shop, Duds & Suds Laundromat, and in 1975, they and their sons opened the Fairlane Food Market.
Besides her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Horsley, on June 18, 2005, and a son, Guy Thomas Horsley, on July 28, 2006.
Also, preceding her in death were her brothers- Howard Dunaway, Chester Dunaway, Raymond Dunaway, James Robert Dunaway, and Gilbert Dunaway (in infancy) and a sister- Verna Polley.
Left to cherish Wilma’s memories is a son- Jim (Tonya) Horsley- Wheelersburg, Ohio
Daughter-in-law- Marsha Horsley-Vanceburg, Kentucky
Granddaughter- Paula (Danny) Hampton- Vanceburg, Kentucky
Grandson- Ben (Michelle) Horsley- Vanceburg, Kentucky
Sisters- Irene Shepherd- Mentor, Ohio, and Betty Tarr- Bend, Oregon
Great-grandchildren- Taylor and Todd Hampton, Timmy, Tucker (Leslie), and Lily Horsley, Riley and Ethan Horsley
Special grandchildren- Ledger, Lincoln, and River Roe
Also, special caregiver Elaina Cooper and several nieces and nephews will mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 1:00 PM at Gaydos Funeral Home with Brother Terry Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis County Memory Gardens
Black Oak, Kentucky
Visitation will be Saturday, December 17, 2022, from 11:00 AM until time of services at the funeral home.
Pallbearers for Wilma Horsley will be Ben Horsley, Timmy Horsley, Tucker Horsley, Danny Hampton, Taylor Hampton, and Todd Hampton. Honorary pallbearer will be Ethan Horsley.
